City 0-1 United (Agg 3-2): 5 Things We Learnt As United Exited The Carabao Cup

It was a night of 'salad' emotions for Manchester United as they won the 181st Manchester derby but failed to make it to Wembley for the Carabao cup final.

Here's what #ManUtdNaijaFM learnt from the derby:

1. NEMANJA 'AGU' MATIC
The midfield 'Agu'(lion) continued from where he stopped at the last derby with another 'Chivita-stic' display alongside the 'brand new' Fred in the heart of midfield.

He scored a lovely volley, his second for United. Unfortunately, his 'white performance' got a 'palm oil stain' (red card). Kudos to him though, he was brilliant.

2. GOLDEN CHANCE WASTED
United had a golden opportunity to double the lead and drag city into penalties when a late second half free kick was won in a juicy position. It was the typical Mata's spot but he let Fred to do 'try ya luck' with it.

It was a wrong decision by Mata in the end, as Fred aimed the wall correctly! Who knows, we might have been singing a different song now.

3. HAVE THE SCALES FINALLY FALLEN?
For the same unknown reason, Olè gave his favourite son, Jesse 'Awilo' Lingard (who cost us the 1st leg defeat), another starting spot.
As expected, he contributed his pair of running legs to the team.

Surprisingly, Olè was seen shouting at Lingard in the second half after consistently losing possession. Two minutes after the scolding, Lingard was off as he did the same thing!!
Brethren, we pray that our prayers have been answered and that the scales have fallen from Olè's eyes.

4. DEFENSIVE TAKA-TIKI
Our defence line led by Harry 'Okute' Maguire, attempted some funny passing stunts yesterday. They tried playing tiki-taka but it looked like taka-tiki at one point,  as they nearly gifted City a goal. Very 'rough' play, as Naija would say.

Kudos to them anyway for keeping a clean sheet. This was the first time in 25 games that City failed to score an opponent!!

5. PEP IN THE POCKET
Pep Guardiola is a fantastic manager, one of the best in the world. But it seems Olè has his 'mumu button'. Olè is now the first manager to beat him twice at the Etihad.

To add ginger to the matter, the last time United won twice away at Manchester City in the same season was in the 1956/57!!

  • IN THE END, we won the battle, but lost the war. The damage had already been done at Old Trafford. No 'PSG miracle' this time.

Kudos to David 'Osinachi' De Gea for another scintillating performance between the sticks.

 GLORY GLORY MAN UNITED.
