United 2-1 Leicester: 5 Things We Learnt From The 'Opening Ceremony'

United opened the 2018/2019 Premier league season ''TGIF" clash with Leicester City at Old Trafford. It ended on a beautiful note as 2 goals from Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw gave United a 2-1 victory.

Here are 5 things ManUtdNaijaFM learnt from this clash:

1. THE WORLD CUP CONTINUED

For our 'swaggerlicious' midfielder and world cup winner Paul 'Ikenna' Pogba, it was indeed a continuation of Russia 2018. He picked up right from where he stopped at Moscow.
He opened the goal account for United with a well taken penalty, beating the 'professor of penalty saves' Kasper Schmeichel.

What a night for Pogba; he wore the captain's arm band, had a good game and scored the 1st goal of the season!!

2. THE WORLD CUP IS OVER.

On the other end of the pitch, our own David 'Osinachi' De Gea put his world cup misery behind him where he made only one save out of 12 shots fired at him.

He picked up from where he left off last season making point blank saves like we are used to. I'm sure it's clear to him that England is his place to shine. At least, no more 'toasting' from  Madrid.

3. LUKE 'AJEBOTA' SHAW.

The ever criticised left back had a fantasy night. He had the most touches (99), most successful passes (57),  most shots on target (2), scored his 1st ever professional goal, and won his 1st ever man of the match award.
What a night for the 'Ajebota'(soft) who spent his off-season holiday training to hard to be a 'Kpako'(hard). Congrats to Luke Shaw. May this be his season to shine.

4. WHICH WAY ALEXIS?

United's No7, Alexis 'Balogun' Sanchez sadly continued from where he left off last season. The Chilean star offered very little from the left wing with poor passes, and was once again 'excellent' at losing possession (23 times, the highest on the night).
It may be too early in the season, but fans are beginning to lose patience. He needs to find his mojo fast.

5. 'NEW' SIGNINGS

Brazilian midfielder Fred became a red this summer and was given his debut on the opening day. He was buzzing from the start and looked bold in making tackles and making forward passes. In Naija language we would say "E no De fear face".

Fellow Brazilian and loan returnee Andreas Perreira looked like a new signing, playing the 'Carrick-role' which he is not used to. He has fire and desire in his eyes to take a place in the team this season and with this kind of display, Mourinho has some thinking to do.

IN THE END, a clean sheet would have been an icing on the cake, but United's consistent nemesis Jamie Vardy did not allow that, after scoring his 5th goal against United.
However, it was a good way to start the season. At least United is top of the table even if it's for 24 hours!
