The first ever competitive meeting between Manchester United and Sevilla ended in a bore draw, with United being somewhat at the losing end. It was another 'black and white TV' display from José's team.
Here are five things #ManUtdNaijaFM learnt from the clash:
1. IF NOT FOR DE GEA
Just like he has has been doing since for the past 5 years, David 'Osinachi' De Gea saved United from shame with some brilliant, out-of-this-world saves.
Sevilla put United under so much pressure that De Gea probably had more ball possession than all the United players......Man of the Match!
2. RIGHT WINGER VACANCY
Despite signing Alexis Sanchez, United still lacks a right winger as the boss has stubbornly opted to play Alexis in a wing that we are already strong (left wing).
Mata, the supposed right winger for the day was found 95% of times on the left. I'm pretty sure Sevilla's left back left the pitch to buy Gala as he had nothing to do.
3. NO PLAN, NO CONSTRUCTION.
Again, United displayed a no-plan-to-score approach to the game as the midfield and attack completely lacked ideas on what to do with the ball to create a goal scoring chance.
Despite changing from a 4-2-3-1 to a 4-3-3 formation, the long ball story has remained. United's current style of play reminds me of a style of Naija football called 'Any-where-bele-face'.
4. SAD DAY FOR ANDER 'AKINBODE' HERRERA
United's baby face warrior was given a rare start with José's new 4-3-3 formation. Unfortunately, the lad was forced off with a possible hamstring injury in the 1st half.
Disappointing indeed as this new system would have seen him get a good run of games.
5. BRING-BACK-OUR-MARTIAL
Once again, our French dazzler, Anthony 'Ikechukwu' Martial was left on the bench. Following his introduction in the late 2nd half, he gave the defenders some serious thinking to do.
Martial needs to be a consistent starter on the left if we are to get the best out of him. If he starts on the left and Alexis on the right, United's attack will improve.
IN THE END, the draw can be considered as a loss for United as any goal scored at Old Trafford by Sevilla will be extremely dangerous.
UP NEXT, Chelsea. See you same time, same station on Sunday.
