Despite fans expecting Manchester United to use an electric blender to produce 3 points against Brighton & Hove Albion, the team used a Grinding stone.
A single deflected goal separated the two sides at the end of 90 minutes.
Here are Five things ManUtdNaijaFM learnt from today's performance:
.
.
1. MARTIAL-RASHFORD COLLABO ISN'T WORKING.
Once again today, José 'Uchenna' Mourinho started his two wide forwards Anthony 'Ikechukwu' Martial and Marcus 'Rashidi-Yekini'. Once again, it didn't click.
With both of them on the pitch, there was no balance in the attack. Considering how each of them torments defenders, one would expect a collabo to be double 'wahala' for defenders.......Sadly it looks like 1+1=1.
2. FOUR NUMBER 9s AND THE WALL OF BRIGHTON
Whether it was a case of total lack of ideas in the final third, or the brick defensive wall built by Brighton, United found it tough getting the ball into their net.
The peak of the frustration was the introduction of Zlatan 'Ekwueme' Ibrahimovic for Mata, thereby having four strikers on the pitch in a 4-2-4 formation. Yet, Husai!!
3. DJ ASHLEY YOUNG
The goal aside, United's dressing room DJ, Ashley Young was indeed today's man of the match. In the frustrating 1st half, he was like a candle in the dark, the only reason to smile.
He made runs and take-ons expected from Martial, and created some chances. He clearly deserved the goal( even though some 'bad-bele' people will say it was an own goal).
4. WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH MATA?
Last season's assist master Juan 'Bankole' Mata has been a shadow of himself this season including today.
He was unable to make an impact in the No 10 position, and on the right flank.
His name has become Mr Anonymous in games this season. Unlike him, he has scored just one goal without a single assist thus far.....What is the MATTER with my dear MATA?
5. LINDELOF IS WAKING UP
The Swedish Defender who has been heavily blasted by fans and celebrated by 'bad-bele' rivals seems to be waking up.
He looked lively and fired up today, making crucial interceptions and bravely diving into tackles.....He may be gradually becoming the 'Jollof' defender we've been hoping for.
IN THE END, not a good performance but 3 'gidigba' points are in the bag. This cannot end without giving some credit to Romelu 'Timaya' Lukaku. Despite missing some goal scoring chances, he was a workhorse on the pitch.
UP NEXT, WATFORD. Same time , Same station, on Tuesday. Stay tuned to ManUtdNaijaFM.
