BENFICA 0-1 UNITED: FIVE(5) THINGS WE LEARNT AS UNITED BENT BENFICA

Manchester United once again squeezed out another win at Lisbon after a 1-0 victory over Benfica at the Estadio da Cuz. It was a rather poor start, but in the end, an 'Aluta' spirit gave the final 'Victoria'.
Here are five things ManUtdNaijaFM learnt from the game :

1. UNITED PLAYED WITH 10 MEN.

With Mhkitaryan's quiet deep in form going unnoticed in recent weeks, an abysmal performance today brought his recent failings to public notice.

The Armenian magician failed to turn up at any moment of the game, stamp his authority or even string together accurate passes, making Lukaku an 'orphan' in the attack.

In Naija language, we would say that right now, "E ball dey pepper for eye". The boss needs to seriously consider our suggestion of sending him for deliverance at "Bench ministry" because today, he was 'Short-one'.

2. FIVE-STAR MATIC

What more can we say about the Serbian? The big man autoMATICally scooped our man of the match award, after taking the game personal today, with a dominating performance at the middle of the park.

Matic was full of class, desire and  intent today, also pleasing eyes of the United faithful with his matheMATICally precise passes today. Another fANTA-bulous and MIRINDA-stic performance.

3. WE MISS "IKENNA" POGBA.

As much as our 'Oga' at the top, José 'Uchenna' Mourinho has insisted otherwise, it is highly safe to say we seriously miss our swaggerlicious midfielder, Paul 'Ikenna' Pogba.

It's been no surprise that the quality of United's performances has dropped significantly since his injury.

It has now become a case of grinding out narrow wins if at all, with no one able to adequately take absolute control of games, create chances or spring up moments of brilliance like he does.
More 'Aboniki' should be applied to that injury to speed up healing.

4. LINDELOF WAS AT HOME INDEED.

In his first homecoming since his transfer to United from Benfica in the summer, United's 'Jollof' defender, Victor Lindelof gave a glimpse of his bright future at United.

He calmly neutralised Benfica's attacking threats, while also building up from the back with some 'Jollof' passes to the midfield and attack from deep. A performance to remember for the Swede.

5. A GIFT, A VERY GOOD GIFT.

With the Portuguese champions proving hard to crack for United, their young goalkeeper, who had been outstanding on the day so far gifted United 3 points, after he escorted Marcus 'Rashidi-Yekini's' free kick into the net.

An unfortunate way to end the goalkeeper's night, but a gift received with open arms by the Red devils.

IN THE END, it turned out to be a game that'll only be remembered for the three points gained to solidify United's lead at the top of the group. There's a lot of room for improvement though.

UP NEXT , Huddersfield; Same time, Same Station, on Saturday.

Should Mkhitaryan be dropped for Mata or Herrera in that No10 role?
